The Agrestic Grocer is the brainchild of locals Beau & Katie Baddock. Prior to opening Agrestic in August 2013 Beau & Katie would spend their weekends at farmers markets in Sydney. Selling and Growing a range of produce in Orange, as well as sourcing directly from a range of small mixed farm enterprises throughout the central west through the Blue Mountains all the way into the Sydney Basin.
This was the ground work of a long-term vision but as fate would have it, opportunity came a knocking…
The Agrestic Grocer opened in August of 2013 & quickly established itself as a strong force behind the local food movement & an exciting addition to the Orange food story. The location is also home to Orange’s first brewery in Badlands Brewery. The grocer was able to provide fantastic produce, along with an interesting mix of local & wholefood grocery items 7 days a week.
Attention for Agrestic grew fast & saw their unique take on regional cuisine & shopping featured in national publications such as Country Style Magazine, Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, New Zealand’s Cuisine Magazine, Instyle & various international & domestic airline publications. It’s almost impossible to Google Agrestic without coming across a myriad of posts from the blogosphere’s movers & shakers.
Not only were the customers & media impressed, but Agrestic managed to collaborate with some of Australia’s most well respected & recognizable chefs. David Tsirekas, Simon Bryant & Jarod Ingersoll have been seen in & around the Agrestic kitchen during sold out events.
These skills and passion have translated into a unique mobile catering arm whose services have been engaged for large scale, high profile events such as the 500 seat Orange Elephant Ball, 400 diner Orange Wine Show Tasting, 1500 participant Orange Food Week Forage & various weddings, public & private events.
Not ones to do things by halves, the Agrestic team have also managed to diversify into the arts with a reputation as one of the best live music venues in country NSW. The weekly Ruby Tuesday – Classic Album Night attracts local & eastern Australian musicians alike for sold out performances of their most loved musical influences & landmarks. With over 100 Ruby Tuesday performances so far, weekly lunch time shows & the hosting of high profile international & Australian artists, Agrestic is proud of its role in helping to reinvigorate the regional music industry.
